Lambasingi, in the Chintapalli area of the Eastern Ghats, is often called the "Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh". On winter mornings the temperature can fall close to 0°C, the valleys fill with mist and the fields are covered in frost. It's rare weather for South India, and a genuinely rewarding ride from Vizag.
The route at a glance
- Distance: about 100 km one way from Visakhapatnam
- Riding time: roughly 3–4 hours, more with stops
- Route: NH16 to Anakapalle, then NH516E through Narsipatnam and up the ghat to Lambasingi
- Best season: November to January for mist and frost; the coldest hours are before sunrise
The highway stretch to Anakapalle and Narsipatnam is quick and straightforward. After Narsipatnam the road climbs into the hills through forest and coffee country, with bends that are best ridden steadily rather than fast.
When to go
The mist and frost Lambasingi is known for are a winter, early-morning thing. Most riders either leave Vizag around 2–3 AM to reach before sunrise, or stay overnight nearby and ride out early. From about 4 AM to 9 AM is when the valley looks its best. Visit in the afternoon or in summer and you'll still get cool hill air and green views, just without the frost.
What to see around Lambasingi
Lambasingi viewpoint
The main reason to come: wide views over the valley, often filled with cloud on winter mornings.
Thajangi Reservoir
A calm reservoir a few kilometres from Lambasingi, good for a quiet stop and photos after sunrise.
Strawberry farms and plantations
In winter, farms around Lambasingi sell fresh strawberries. You'll also pass coffee and pepper plantations on the way up.
Kothapalli Waterfalls
About 35 km from Lambasingi and a good addition if you have time, especially after the monsoon.
Which bike should you take?
It's a long day with a hill climb at the end, so comfort matters. A Royal Enfield Classic 350 or Hunter 350 is the relaxed choice. A Bajaj Pulsar or Pulsar N160 is lighter and handles the ghat well. A scooter can do it, but on a 200 km round trip with a climb you'll feel the difference.
Tips before you ride
- Pack properly warm clothes. A jacket, gloves and something for your neck. Riding in near-zero air at speed is far colder than standing still.
- Ride slowly in fog. Use low beam, keep a big gap, and avoid overtaking where you can't see far ahead.
- Fuel up in Narsipatnam; there are few options once you're in the hills.
- Expect weak mobile signal around Lambasingi. Download offline maps before you leave.
- Don't ride tired. If you start at 2 AM, stop for tea and a break on the way back.
- Carry your licence and ID, and wear your helmet (one is included free with every rental).
